Changing Ringtones, Wallpapers, and Skins on the USCC V3c

This is the easiest thing to do to radically change the look of your phone. Everyone wants their phone personalized and every carrier has their own way of charging you outrageous amounts of money to do it. This guide will outline how to change all these things for free!

What you need:

• Get your V3c properly connected to your computer
• Ringtones you want on your phone
• Wallpapers you want on your phone
• Skins you want on your phone

Section 1 - What types of files to use

Ringtones:

Your ringtones can be .mp3 files or .mid. .WAV files can be copied but they won’t show up on the phone. I have gotten Variable bitrate (VBR) mp3s to play and mp3s from 96 kbps to 320 kbps, so it’ll play pretty much whatever you throw at it. You can copy a whole song over if you like, but when your phone rings, it’s only going to play the first 30 seconds of the song. So if you want a particular part of the song to play you’ll either have to find it on a filesharing network or cut the song down yourself. If you want to cut the song yourself, I highly recommend the program mpTrim It’s simple and it’s free. Also note that no matter how long the file is, it will only play the first 30 seconds when your phone rings, so if you’re cutting them down it’s pointless to make them longer than 30 seconds

Wallpaper:

These must be 176 pixels wide by 220 pixels tall  Their filetype must be .jpg or .gif. Animated gifs don’t animate when you set them as wallpaper.

Skins:

These must be made for the V3c/V3m or the K1. You cannot use skins for the V3 or the V3x. If you look at the screen shot and it has a symbol in the middle of the bottom of the screen, then it won’t work for the V3c. You can get skins here or here.

Section 2 – Putting Ringtones on the phone

Once you have started PST and p2kcommander, you should see a screen like this:

Now select the drop down box in the upper left corner as show below:

Select p2k mobile phone as shown above. You might notice in the lowerleft hand corner of the screen it displays an error message:

This is completely normal, it does it everytime. Ignore it. Now on the right side of the scrren, double click the “a” folder. It will then display this screen:

Now double click “motorola” and it will display this screen:

Now double click “shared”. It will then display this screen:

Now double click “audio” and you will see a screen similar to this:

Now to add your own ringtones, on the left side, navigate to the folder where your ringtones are. Find the one you want on your phone and right click it, and a menu will pop up as shown below:

Just select copy, then the middle of the screen will blank out for a minute. This is normal:

Just wait until it’s done, and now theis ringtone will show up in your “Sounds” on your phone and you can set it as your main ringtone, set it to a contact in your phonebook, or bluetooth it to all your friends! You can fit quite a lot of ringtones on your phone. If you want to free up space, you can just delete the ringtones that came with the phone. Just right click them and select delete. I highly recommend that before deleting anything on your phone, to save a backup on your computer, just in case!

Section 2 – Putting wallpapers on your phone

Follow the instructions above for ringtones, except instead of going to the audio directory, select the “picture” directory right below it. Then on the left side, navigate to where your wallpapers are and right click them and select copy. This is done just like the ringtones, except it’s a different directory on the phone and you’re copying pictures instead.

Section 3 – Putting skins on your phone

This is a little different from putting ringtones and wallpapers on your phone, but not much different. I am going to assume you’ve read the last 2 sections of this guide and can navigate the directories without screenshots to guide you. First, start up PST and p2k commander. Then select “p2k mobile phone” from the drop down box on the right side. Once it loads, navigate to /a/mobile/skins it will look similar to this:

Yours won’t have the Matrix folder. That is the skin I use. Now on the left navigate to where you have downloaded and unzipped your skin. You want to transfer the folder with the ski files and everything, otherwise it won’t show up on your phone correctly. So right click the folder you want and select “copy” as shown below:

Now if you did it correctly, the you will have a new folder on the right with your new skin in it:

Now you will have the option of the new skin on your phone! If you have problems with any of the above instructions, post them in the V3c/V3m forums !
