BE CAREFUL ModMyMoto.com EXTREME modding guide USE AT YOUR OWN RISK!
Guide for backing up a E398@ROKR and creating a SHX with F&B3 and then split/merge a SHX with SHXCodec. (Sooner or later I will be doing a guide on creating a MP)...
For this guide I will start off by showing people how to get F&B3 to save Bootloader, PDS and CG1 if F&B3 doesn't already do that!!! Start by starting F&B3 up and set the phone for the format you are using, for E398, it will be Motorola E398 (Original) and for E398 with R373, it will be Motorola E398 (Reflashed to E1). Now if your F&B3 screen looks like this :
Or if it looks like this :
Then some modding of the profiles within F&B3 is needed. But thats not at all hard!!! So if your screen looks like one of the two screens I just showed you then go onto your harddisc (now known as HD) and browse to the place on your HD where F&B3 resides. On my system its here C:\Programmer\Random's Developments\Flash&Backup 3\profiles but on yours it might be different so please check that out!!! Now inside the profiles folder are all the files that F&B3 uses to setup F&B3. Some of those will have to by copied and then you'll have to edit the copy of the file with Notepad!!! The name of the files that needs to be copied is : 1. R372_E398.prof copy it and rename the copy R372_E398_bak.prof, edit the R372_E398_bak.prof and remove the ; (semicolons) there's in that file, save it, and now you will have 2 profiles for the same phone, one default and one edited to show Bootloader and PDS will also be available! 2. R373_E398.prof copy that and rename it R373_E398_bak.prof edit this file and again remove the ; (semicolons), and now the Bootloader and PDS is also available here!!! So now we can continue on this backup project!!!
Now you should have a screen that looks like one of these two screens :
Or like this :
Okay, so now we are ready to do the actual backup and its a very easy task, and goes something like this:
Start off by starting Flash&Backup3, then connect your phone to the PC, and after that you can press the tab I have circled in RED in the next picture, called "Read Data", then select the correct profile (circled in BLUE) for your phone, for me thats E398 Reflashed to E1 but for you it could be different!! This guide can be used for most Motorola phones!!!
Now you have to choose a backup format (circled in RED) and in this I have choosen "FB3(CAB-ZIP archive)" and then you press the select all (circled in BLUE) and that selects everything on your phone to be backed up! Here's the picture for this operation!
Now you're ready for the last part of the whole thing. Press the "Read data" (circled in RED), and that will create a backup of your phone to a directory specified in the settings, on my system defaulted to here : C:\Programmer\Random's Developments\Flash&Backup 3\Backups\, and in there you will find your own personal backup that you just made!!!
And now it would be time to learn how-to restore the backup you have just made, and that would go something like this :
Start off by starting Flash&Backup3 and then connect your phone! After that you would first select the profile and that would have to be the same as you used to backup the phone with (here circled in dark grey), then you would press the "Write data" (circled in RED) and after that you would press the "Select file" (circled in BLUE) and select the backup you want to have restored in the browser window as showed in the next picture.
And now a little window for browsing for a backup file will show up and start in the default place where F&B3 saves backups to on the HD! Now that window would look something like this and you would here choose the backup filename and press "open" (Both highlighted in RED).
And that would leed us to the last step of restoring the phone. This is where you would press the "Write data" (circled in RED) and that would backup your phone to the previous state it was in when it was backed up!!!
Cheers and Happy Modding!! Greetings from Karsten Dot DK (MegaJoy) Denmark.
