WHY it's important to know the CRSD date (production date)

by WeAreNotAlone
WHY it's important to know the CRSD date (production date)

In a nutshell -Jan-2006 I sent in a "babied" Motorola V3 for warranty repair thru T-Mobile USA... tooks pic's of phone
LDI under battery =WHITE
LDI on main board=WHITE

(LDI=Liquid Damage Indicator)

T-Mo hit me with with a $100 oow fee (Out Of Warranty)... deeming it so-called "liquid" damaged.

(Neat trick since I'm a tech, have phones from 1992 that still work, babied the unit, did not expose it to temp changes, don't do stupid stuff like take the phone in the bathroom while I'm taking a SHOWER... don't have kids (which like to while you're not looking "dip" your phone into their milk for example like a cookie, stick it in their mouth...)

The only thing I can think of is that the phone was stored improperly for several months -during that time the damage occured.

Here's the deal about the CRSD date and WHY it is important:

Most phones take about a 4-6 weeks once the CRSD date is generated for the phone to be shipped from China, go thru customs, be shipped to your local store / Or from your online vendor+ be in the customer's hands.

On the unit deemed oow.. the CRSD was 9-2005
Date of purchase was 3-2006

Notice that is wayyyyyy over 4-6 weeks... so it appears the unit was in storage for several months.

My advice? - If you get a phone with that has been in storage keep the above in mind.

(PS: While all phones may NOT be damaged during storage, knowing the CRSD date is useful as a earlier CRSD date means the hardware itself is of a earlier hardware revision...
From just a pure hardware prespective it's better to get a phone with a later revision of the hardware. Later revisions usually being more stable.)

HOW to fiqure your CRSD date if you don't have the box:

CRSD date is on the box, if you don't have the box you can get a pretty good idea of the CRSD date by running
TTC v.1.2 (Triplet Tool Compilation v1.2)

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q...oogl e+Search

When you run TTC, look at where it says FINAL TEST DATE- then add maybe 4-7 days after that date to get your CRSD date.

Add about 4-6 weeks to that date to fiqure the time it should arrive in your hands....

Anything beyond that means the unit has been in storage somewhere... which may cost you $$$$$ later on.

.

I think Liquid damage, customers being told something is oow, when it should not be is a scam.

Beware of the dot

excerpt:

Consumers with relatively new cell phones -- in one case a phone right out of the box -- say sensors inside the devices appear to be incorrectly registering water damage, voiding the warranties.

The consumers all insist they haven't dropped their phones in water or left them out in the rain, yet the tiny liquid-damage indicators inside their phones have changed color, indicating damage.

Regardless on the LDI's being accurate...

I also think that cell phone mfg's are not using any kind of "coatings" on the boards, Or applying any kind of anti-corrosion type coatings to connectors... because units only have a year warranty +they have that lovely, no way to contest Liquid damage "out"...

They for sure aren't making Mil spec type items... I just hope the same guys doing such are making stuff for North Korea...
If so, and it's rained we all have nothing to worry about !
.

.

Oh, here's another reason why the CRSD date is important.

Most mfg's go by the purchase date on warranty issues, them requesting a invoice showing the purchase date.

In cases in which a invoice cannot be provided by the customer a "good" company will not tell the customer to drop dead- (hey- no reciept-No warranty)

But instead will go by the production date of a item..(Knowing that for example if a item was made in China Dec-2006... that item should have taken 4-6 weeks to go thru customs, and be in the customers hand around Jan-2007...).

Good companies will work with you on not having a receipt...

Example= I received a phone as a gift, no receipt, have the box and everything that came with the item, all paperwork... and the person that gave me the item got killed in a car wreck, OR their house burned down.

Ditto if my house burns down, or say you come home one day and the wife /husband has left with all your records (or trashed them)... A good mfg will go by that production date... and honor the warranty.
