How to Take Screen Captures of Your Handset
by ebentley
With an External Program
Use this great program called Msnap 0.2a. Make sure the cable is firmly seated in the phone or the program won't launch. I've found that if you want to take successive screen captures that you need to disconnect and reconnect the cable after each capture and re-start MSnap. It saves the file in .png format to whatever folder you have the MSnap executable in. You can then convert them to either .gifs or .jpg files as desired.
How-To:
? Plug your handset into your computer
? Be sure to display whatever image you want captured before you start MSnap
? Start MSnap and click the "capture" button
? As the screen is captured, you will see the visual progress in MSnaps? window. MSnap will look like it?s not capturing the entire screen, but it is. The graphic below shows MSnap at work
When the screen capture is complete, look in the folder where you told MSnap to download the screenshot or if you haven't selected a download location, look in same folder as the MSnap executable file and you?ll see a graphic file named ?screenN.png (N being a number). Example Screen1.png. As long as you execute the program from the same location, it will increase the number every time you capture an image. If you move the MSnap executable to another folder, it will restart the numbering. You can convert the .png file to other file formats and post the images on the forums.
Without an External Program
This was passed on by Psycomorpher. If you want to take a screenshot directly from your mobile?s screen (with out any programs) do this:
? You have to change offset 06 in seem 032b
? set to 0A to make screenshots via the central button of the 4-ways keypad
? set to 0B to use # button,
? set to 41 to use the videocall button instead
(ebentley) I just mapped mine to my # key. You shouldn't have it mapped to this key all the time because you use this key to select text input when text messaging. You should probably use some other key that you don't use that often. It was suggested to use zbruder's mapping guide to select a key.
How To:
I edited SEEM 032B, offset 06 to 0B (#) button. Saved the SEEM back to the phone and restarted.
Now all you have to do is once you have the screen displayed you want to capture, press the mapped key (you won?t hear a shutter click or get any indication that the capture has been taken). Then go to settings>multimedia>pictures. You should see your capture labeled scrnnn (n=digit like scr001, scr002)
BTW: You can use these methods to provide screenshots that you can post in the forum to show some of the problems you're experiencing. Many times this helps in the troubleshooting process
