mma_ucp
by Xitiz7728
Basic INFORMATION REGARDING mma_ucp files.
Q: What is mma_ucp?
The mma_ucp file defines the structure of the main menu of your phone. Different skin designers use different menu schemes to suit their needs, and mostly supply the mma_ucp file with the skin package.
Q: What happens if I have wrong mma_ucp file?
If you have the wrong mma_ucp, then you will face problems such as jumbled menu or phone restart. It is recommended that you backup your phone before trying out a new untested mma_ucp file.
Q: How can I install multiple mma_ucp on my phone?
You can install multiple mma_ucp files on your phones. Here is how you can do that:
1. Download FileChanger java application here.
2. Install the FileChanger application to your phone using Motorola Midlets Manager. You can get it here
3. I recommend you set a shortcut key to Java applications from your home screen. For example, I have set Menu + 9 to Java apps and Games.
4. Rename the mma_ucp from your favourite skin to mma_ucp_<your skin name> eg. If you are using milk skin, rename mma_ucp from milk skin to mma_ucp_milk.
5. Copy the mma_ucp_milk file to /a/mobile/system using p2ktools.
6. Similarly copy all the mma)ucp files you need to /a/mobile/system, following steps 4 and 5 above.
7. Now everytime you select a new skin which has a different mma_ucp file, you need not connect your phone to the PC! Just run FileManager, select the mma_ucp for this skin, press menu and click apply. There is no need to restart your skin either.
Q: I dont like this Motorola Midlets Manager process. Tell me a simpler process.
The simplest process is to run p2kTools and copy the mma_ucp file of your new skin to /a/mobile/system/ overwriting the old one and restart your phone. Remember to keep a backup copy of your old mma_ucp just in case.
Q: How can I make my own mma_ucp menu order?
To make your own menu order, get p2k Menu Editor from here. Backup your mma_ucp first and create a copy. Then open p2k Menu Editor, Select Open Menu->From File, browse to the downloaded file. Change the menu order using the menu editor. Finally press Save Menu->Save to file and Save the mma_ucp. Finally upload it to your phone.
Q: Does the mma_ucp from one phone model work on another?
No! There is no gaurantee that mma_ucp files from one phone model will work on another directly. You can however convert the mma_ucp (see Next question). It is RISKY to install the mma_ucp from one phone model on another directly. NOT RECOMMENDED!!!
Q: How do I use mma_ucp from another phone on my phone?
You have to use mma_convert and convert it before you can edit it with P2K Menu Editor. Then you have to reconvert it before you can use it with the phone. (Thanks NiNJaHw)
Q: This tutorial sucks. What do I do?
PM me and give me your choicest curses. After 10 people's curses, I will request the mods to delete this thread.
Q: I have more queries!!! What do I do?
PM me and I will try to help you.
NOTE: The information above (except last two answers) is based on my personal experience with mma_ucp files and in no way should be accepted as final. Xitiz7728 recommends you always backup your phone before messing with it. I am not responsible if you brick your phone!
