This tutorial will teach you how to install Mobile Phone Tools (commonly referred to as MPT)
and use it to upload ringtones to your phone.
Download Mobile Phone Tools.
This program is
available through Motorola for $29.99, and is a great program for accessing multimedia files on
your phone via your computer, as well as dialing and using SMS through your phone from your
computers hardware. Rumor has it you can also download it through Google, often at a much lower
price, some say even free. ;)
Open the .zip file (using
AlZip or some other uncompression program) and double-click the file inside. MPT will begin
to install, and will say "The software you are installing has not passed Windows Logo testing to
verify its compatiblity with Windows XP." Go ahead and click "Continue Anyway". I had to actually do this
multiple times, you may have to also--I don't know if thats normal or if my computer was just
messing up, ha ha ha.
Click "OK" on the registration prompt, and fill out the form, then clicking "Close"
after it says "Thank you for choosing a Motorola product."
Then click "Finish." and run MPT.
MPT will run LiveUpdate once you click "Next" and install the latest version.
Restart the computer.
Leave the phone unconnected.
Now we will go to your Start menu, and go Programs>mobile Phone Tools>mobile Phone Tools and run
the program. Select the Default Profile and click "OK".
Choose your method of connection, and click "Next >". I recommend using a data cable.
The program will prompt you to plug your phone in via USB. Go ahead and do so, it will then find
your Motorola V3 Razr.
You will see an image of your phone on your desktop, and it will say "Initializing" for a bit
longer than you think it should. ;) It should then display your provider, as well as your signal
strength and battery level on the screen. Then click the icon on the right that has a paint palette,
and some musical notes. This will launch the Multimedia Studio.
