[Guide] Installing the Drivers in Vista & XP

by N-Forced

since 99% of v3i fonts give errors in v3ts i decided it was come time for a tutorial on how to make your own v3t fonts, so we all can have 100% working fonts for our phones. ok here goes....

V3t font tutorial

ok guys here it it, the long awaited tutorial on v3t fonts. lets get started

what you need:
stock v3t language pack
RandomSHX
Flash and Backup
MotoFontEditor
XVI32 or HexWorshop
RSD Lite

ok im going to be honest with you guys, making fonts for the v3t isnt that much different then making fonts for the v3i, but here i will walk you through it step by step so you can be assured that your fonts will work; ok lets begin.

the first thing you want to do is make a backup of the language pack, to do this first connect your phone with the usb cable and open flash and backup. after flash and backup connected with your phone go to the Read Data tab and check the cg4 check box, make sure the backup format shx is selected in the drop down box; then hit the read data button. after flash and backup makes the backup close out of flash and backup. go to the folder where flash and backup put the language pack (usually C:\Program_Files\Motorola_Tools\Flash&Backup 3 if you didn't change it) and make a copy of it, the copy is what we will be modding.

now make a folder called v3t fonts on your computer and place the copy of the language pack there (doing this will make sure everything is organized) now that that is done open randomshx and click "extract bins from shx" button,

let it do its thing then close out of the program. a folder named extracted bins will be made in the folder where your language pack was saved to, next open moto font editor and hit the open button; now navigate to the extracted bins folder and click on the bin ending in 2.bin.

example: v3t_stock2.bin

after the bin is loaded in moto font editor, go to the General Font tab and select unicode 0021 all the way down to F087, easy way to remember this is select everything except the very top one.

once selected go to the processing menu and click select windows font, choose you favorite font;

but keep in mind that 19 pixels is the max height, after the font is selected moto font editor will display the font height, if it is anything higher than 19 pixels hit select windows font again and then choose a size down till the size is less than 19 pixels.

after the font is chosen click replace the chosen symbols, if you want to replace any other part of the language pack go ahead, but for this tutorial ill only be doing the general font. once that is done click optimize the chosen symbols on width, then save the language pack and close out of moto font editor.

BE WARNED: NOT ALL FONTS WILL WORK WITH YOUR PHONE

I have not found out why some fonts will not work with the phone, so its kinda a hit and miss; usually the sans serif fonts work without problems and the only ones i've had problems with were the
specialty fonts like avalon.

ok, now that the language pack has been edited to out liking, we need to convert the bins back to shx for flashing. go back to randomshx and click make shx from bins, choose the .lst file and let it do its thing,

once completed close out of randomshx. now create a new folder and place the newly created shx in there (just to let you know the shx file will be in the extracted bins folder) then open rsd lite and flash the newly created language pack, just to let you know there will be a checksum error at the end, dont worry about that because we will correct that next. after rsd lite is done, make sure the flash took, open the phone and hit the power button and let the phone re power back on, if all went correctly the phone will power back on with no problems and the font will be displayed, if the white screen of death is displayed unplug the phones usb cable, takeout and reinsert the battery, then go into bootloader mode and flash back the copy of the stock language pack. then go to moto font editor and choose a different font, you can use the same extracted 2.bin file but make sure you recompile the bins back to shx after you are done.

after you confirm the language pack is working, now we can fix the checksum errors. go to the rsd lite log file (found in C:\Program_Files\Motorola\RSD Lite) and look for the line with the file and phone number displayed.

example: ERROR: Phone[0000]: Error verifying Code Group 4 checksums. File: 0x9ABC, Phone: 0x5B7F

that is the bad checksum we will need to fix, now open hex workshop and open the 0.bin file, this is the header file; when we are searching for the bad sector we will need to reverse the last four number around. and replace the bad sectors with the last four phone numbers, these need to be reversed as well.

example: 9ABC would become BC9A, then we would replace it with 7F5B

after the sectors are replaced save the file and recompile the bins back to shx format, then flash with the newly created shx file and if done correctly it should say pass when done flashing.

there you go, now hopefully this will help you guys out.
